Sailing catamarans

Sailing a catamaran is similar to a monohull. There are plenty of thrills to be had sailing catamarans. Cats are quick, slow to tack, less manouverable and fun!

Some tips for sailing a cat:

  • Sail with the traveller down
  • Setting the sails better will result in massively improved performance
  • Reef earlier than in a monohull
  • The driving sail is a mainsail unlike most monohulls
  • Get speed up out of the tack before heading up
  • Don’t go too low in waves or you’ll pitchpole!
